“I’ve been feeling kind of mixed up with my feelings and I need someone to listen while I talk it out.”

Having someone, like a friend or family member, that you can talk to about your emotions and your thoughts is a huge strength! It doesn’t have to be a big, sit-down conversation. Meaningful conversations can happen while doing other things.

Talking it out helps! Keeping things bottled up doesn’t. When we bottle up our emotions and attempt to deny our feelings this creates problems. Eventually all those bottled up emotions will explode out, sometimes in very devastating ways!

But opening up and sharing your thoughts, your ideas, and your feelings is a great coping skill. Your support system needs to include at least one person who is a great listener. Talking through things helps to put your thoughts into words and helps you to process those thoughts. Talking also helps to break isolation since you are no longer dealing with it all on your own.

Talking About It is a great tool for good mental health! Who is a supportive person you can talk to today?
